Insert page pencils by hde2009 Insert page pencils by hde2009
Here's a sneak peek of something I've got in the works.

Before I get too far into my description, please DO NOT download, copy or appropriate this for your own use.
At Auto Assembly last year, I showed a few pages of a comic I've been drawing in between lettering gigs. It's been slow going, and the pages I had with me weren't necessarily as finished as I'd have liked, but overall, the feedback I got was very positive.

My pal and pro colourist-type Jason Cardy suggested that the early pages needed a stronger focus on character art, though, and in keeping with some constructive feedback I received elsewhere, I opted to add an extra page near the beginning of the story.

What you see here are the basic pencils for an insert page, which should hopefully (by the time lettering is applied) address several minor story problems and smooth the first few pages out a little.

While this is a phot of the page 'in progress', I've since wrapped it up. There's just enough detail in the final pencils so that I can confidently ink this over the coming few days - which I suspect I'll be doing in between projects again! Hopefully, that's where it'll really come to life.

My current thinking is that I'll launch BGA as a webcomic sometime this summer. I'll update my page as and when.

I REALLY wanted to do a print edition, but right now it seems too risky financially. So, currently I'm thinking about serialising the story as a black and white web comic and then releasing full colour graphic novels of each story arc.

Bit of a 'dream plan' right now, as I'm only confidently producing one page per week for the time being. But we'll see how it goes!

It sounds great though! I'd love to follow it as a webcomic. And one page per week would be great for a webcomic. I'm only doing 1-3 pages pr. month on Kijara. I'm doing the same thing - releasing it as a webcomic at kijara.com for now, but it's meant to be in print eventually.
The great thing about releasing it as a webcomic is that you kinda "force" yourself to keep at a steady page production rate. That really saved my project with Kijara. It has been at a stand still for far too long, but since I started the webpage a year ago I managed to do 21 finished full color pages :D

Yeah - it's a drag when production time dictaes to how you're going to get your comics out there.

At this stage, my biggest fear is that it'll launch and nobody will care. Urk!

But the art looks good though - you should be able to generate some attention.
But yeah, there's always the danger that readers will loose interst if they have to wait too long for the comic. Kijara generated a lot of interest when I started the project up at first, and not all of those fans have hung on, because I don't have the time to deliver the comic fast enough.

It's a killer, for sure.

I'm currently thinking of ways I can wave the banner for this one when the time is right.
